Saffron & Honey Road

Morocco is one of the leading countries in the world after India, Iran and Spain in the production of Saffron. At a height of 1400 meters above sea level and about 90 kilometers east of Taroudant district, is located a small Moroccan town called “Taliouine”, which is well known for planting Moroccan Saffron and producing what is now called “The Red Gold”. The town has a market every Monday morning. The Saffron Festival is celebrated in Taliouine at the end of October.

DAY 1 MARRAKECH

After your arrival at Menara airport, and be welcomed by your guide. You’ll be transferred to your place of stay in order to release the fatigue you have been through during your flight and to enjoy a luxurious traditional dinner.

DAY 2 CASABLANCA/TALIOUINE (600km)

After breakfast, you will have an early departure from Casablanca. Your Lunch will be served in Marrakech. After finally arriving at TALIOUINE (1030m altitude), capital of Saffron. You’ll benefit from a walk in the village: Dar Azaafran, Kasbah of Glaoui and the Souktana cooperative. Eventually, you’ll enjoy your dinner and an overnight stay in a guesthouse.

DAY 3 TISLIT GORGES (1 544m)

Today’s activity will need 5 to 6 hours of walking. It’s where you’ll explore huge conglomerates of red rocks form real citadels. The village is famous for its carpets. Women display their production on the rocks. You’ll get to a family where you will see the manufacture of the carpet knotted or woven on the high smooth craft. You’ll also visit:  the collective granary of Tizgui (2 250 m)which was built in the 15th century, a classified in the national inheritance, where the Berbers of Tizgui stored their supplies there to preserve them from the attacks of the pirates of the other tribes. Troglodyte houses of Ifri that are considered as the oldest historical monument of the region built in the 15th century. And then, Saffron picking and harvesting which is preferably be done between mid October and mid November. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy the most well-known traditional Moroccan dish “Couscous” for lunch. Eventually you’ll go back to your place of stay around 5pm for dinner & accommodation.

DAY 4 TALIOUINE/TAROUDANT (103km)

After breakfast, you’ll hit the road to Taroudant with a stop at the oasis of Tiout, which is located in the middle of the desert; it is a sea of green plants with more than 20 000 date palms, dominated by a majestic Kasbah of the Saadian era. In the palm grove, a double irrigation pond, which also serves as a pool in summer, is fed by a spring. You may also enjoy a walk in the setting of "Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves“. After lunch, you’ll head toward Taroudant. Afterwards, you’ll get free time stroll in the alleys of the medina. Eventually you’ll be taken to your place of stay for dinner and accommodation.

DAY 5 (TAROUDANT -PARADISE VALLEY - AGADIR 124 KM)

After having breakfast, you’ll continue the road to Paradise Valley where you’ll get ready for a 1h30 walking trek . After your lunch you'll be transferred to Agadir. You can have the rest of the afternoon for a personal activity or you’ll be taken to your place of stay for dinner and accommodation.

DAY 6 AGADIR

After breakfast, you’ll start your day by visiting the collective apiary of Inzerki, also called "Tadart” or “Guerran", the apiary of Inzerki is the biggest and the oldest apiary in the world! It is made up of many adobe boxes where placed cylinders form the apiaries. It is at altitude (980m), surrounded by many flowers and plants: argan trees, palm trees, thyme, lavender etc. During its highest activity, the collective apiary had nearly 4 000 apiaries. Today, some douars share the apiary. Your lunch may be served at (Zellado Hostel) from where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the lake Abdelmoumen dam. Ultimately, you’ll be transferred to your place of stay for dinner & accommodation.
After breakfast, you’ll make your way back to Marrakech by crossing the Argan Trees land. On you arrival, you’ll visit the “ochre city” : you’ll get the chance to discover the Menara garden, the Saadian tombs, the Koutoubia, and the Bahia Palace. After having lunch in a well known traditional restaurant, you’ll visit the famous Jema El Fna Square and its notable hand markets. At the end of the day, you’ll be transferred to your place of stay for dinner and accommodation.

DAY 7 AGADIR - MARRAKECH

After breakfast, you’ll make your way back to Marrakech by crossing the Argan Trees land. On your arrival, you’ll visit the “ochre city” : you’ll get the chance to discover the Menara garden, the Saadian tombs, the Koutoubia, and the Bahia Palace. After having lunch in a well known traditional restaurant, you’ll visit the famous Jema El Fna Square and its notable hand markets. At the end of the day, you’ll be transferred to your place of stay for dinner and accommodation.
Optional: Diner Fantasia at “Chez Ali” restaurant

DAY 8 MARRAKECH - DEPARTURE

After breakfast, according to your flight departure schedule, you’ll slightly prepare your luggage full of joyful memories and head to the airport.
